Farewell Letter

Nearly seven years ago, in the vibrant heart of Bali, I embarked on this adventure, inspired by a desire to create. With no prior experience in jewellery or business, I designed the Morocco and Namib Moon climbers, and soon discovered that many of you wanted them too.

Since then, we’ve sold over 40,000 pairs of these earrings alone, along with many other designs. I am still in awe of how fortunate I’ve been to have your support and love for what I’ve created from the very beginning.

As the company grew, so did my passion for jewellery, gemstones, and design. Yet, as many artists know, the line between creation and commerce can blur. To start a business, create wearable art, travel the world, experience the highs and lows, and then actively choose to step back because it no longer brings me joy—this is a privilege I don’t take for granted.

I truly feel like the luckiest person in the world. So, as sad as it may seem to see a business closing, I make this decision with joy and gratitude. Nothing is permanent except change, and I step into 2025 eager to learn and explore new avenues of creativity. I wish to create, connect, and immerse myself in new experiences—to be more Julia than Bonito.

There are not enough words to express my gratitude to you for choosing Bonito and for being part of this adventure of a lifetime. Through your support, we have also been able to impact not only your beautiful style but the future of thousands of children, and I will continue to give back and encourage you to do so too.

Bonito's last day of trade will be on the 31st of December 2024. Our entire website is now 20% off, with limited stock available. Once they’re gone, there won’t be any restocks—this is your chance to own a piece of Bonito’s legacy.

With every purchase you make until we close, we will also be donating a backpack filled with school supplies to a child in need. Our donations will take place in Indonesia in January 2025, and we will post on our social media to share with you the joy of Bonito's final contribution.

I am deeply thankful for my incredible team, whose unwavering support and enthusiasm have been my compass through every twist and turn. This journey has been a remarkable chapter in my life, and it has been a true honor to adorn you with creations born from my heart.

Each piece of jewellery tells a story, and this is Bonito’s—one of beauty, growth, and now, transformation.

With all my love and gratitude,

Julia

OUR STORY

Every piece of jewellery tells a story. This is ours.

Bonito emerged to fill the gap for wearable art, inviting consumers to find demi-fine designs that showcase unique taste and expression.

Bonito’s launch in 2018 aligned perfectly with the growing demand for jewelry that not only looked good but also did good in our world, reflecting a broader shift towards conscious consumerism in fashion.

Julia aspired to blend her love for art, fashion, and philanthropy into a unique vision. She envisioned a jewelry brand that stood out in its affordability and distinctiveness, setting it apart from the generic offerings of mainstream jewelry. Her mission extended beyond aesthetics; she aimed to empower people to embrace both style and altruism while actively contributing to meaningful social impact through innovative giving-back.

The inception of Bonito was an unexpected adventure that began on the streets of Bali, where the Julia, brand's founder, was temporarily living and working as a volunteer at The Green School, an institution dedicated to sustainability and alternative education.

WHY BONITO?

Jewelry has been part of human history since the ancient world: transforming raw materials into wearable art. What you wear as jewelry is so personal and unique, defining your taste and preferences in colors and shapes. Just as clothing, jewelry tells a lot about who you are.

In Portuguese, the language of our founder and designer Julia Sousa, Bonito means beautiful.

For us, beautiful is the art of designing and making jewelry.

Bonito is wearable art.
